Hello C-4 Families-

This is just a quick reminder that Outdoor School is fast approaching. In order for your child to have the best experience possible here are a few packing hints to keep in mind:

-Pack all bedding in a plastic garbage bag that is labeled with your child's name

-Pack a sack lunch for the first day (please keep in mind that this lunch must be kept separate from the rest of you child's luggage)

-Pack for all types of weather- rain coat and boots are so important!

-Please ensure that your child does NOT bring any type of technology (cell phone, game boy) as this is against our policy and may result in your child being sent home

-The exception to this rule is a digital camera

Fifth Grade Information

WELCOME TO 5th GRADE

As we begin another school year may we offer the following fifth grade facts:

1) School begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:15 daily. Doors are open at 8:45 a.m. Please be on time. A late arrival does impact your child’s day.

2) LUNCH will be scheduled daily from 12:20-12:50; RECESS will follow from 12:50-1:20 daily.
Note: You are welcome to come and eat with your child. All visitors are required to check in with the office first.

3) Yes, we use parent volunteers. A schedule will be built when we receive the required background check OK. Volunteers will be assigned to a schedule that “fits” the classroom needs.

4) Please make sure your child has the necessary school supplies (See the office for a copy or check the Gubser web-site located on the district’s homepage.) Each child will be assessed a $6.00 fee to pay for the required Assignment Notebook. Please contact your child’s teacher if this is a burden on your budget.

5) Yes, there will be homework on a daily basis. If your child indicates they have “none,” be suspicious; then ask for clarification. Each student has, at a minimum, to read 20 minutes per night.

6) We believe in and practice student independence and responsibility. A lot will be expected of your child. We have nine (9) months to get them prepared for the huge transition into middle school. As educators, we take this fact very seriously. For some, this nine month transition will be effortless, and for others it will be a growing time with considerable effort required.

8) PLEASE try to schedule appointments, (i.e. doctor, dentist, etc) in the late afternoon or after school. Doing so will lessen the impact on your child’s school day. FYI: Pullouts are scheduled from 10:45-11:30 daily.
